"ADOKIYE" as she is widely known is a singer and song writer whose musical style is deep rooted in the Afro-fusion genre of music. The Caritas University graduate of architecture started her musical journey at an early age, influenced by music icons such as Onyeka Onwenu, Aretha Franklin, King Sunny Ade, Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley. During her university days she was a member of a minor musical group called the “MASE” comprising of four young talents whose first name alphabets were coined to get the name "MASE". Her exploits with the group contributed in exposing and sharpening her musical skills to a great extent which saw her gearing towards professional singing. Currently her two singles “Baby Baby” ft Olamide and “Kulumo Kulumo” ft Black 70 are testimonials to the fact that some people breathe life into music.

Rihanna Tweets at Chris Brown as He Attends Drug Probation Hearing

Just when we thought Chris Brown’s legal probation for hitting his ex-lover “Rihanna” in 2009 was over but it’s not, totally. He was sentenced to five years probation after admitting to the assault charge.

Yesterday, Rihanna tweeted at Chris Brown to wish him luck but majority thought RiRi was straight up flirting and rekindling her relationship with her former lover. “rihanna: @chrisbrown I’m praying for you and wishing u the best today!”
Chris replied with a “thank you” and moved on to his music promotion.

CB’s probation hearing yesterday, Monday (Sept. 24), revealed that the Virginia native failed a drug test earlier in the year which he tested positive for weed in his system while in his home state on June 18. Admitting to his probation officer, CB claimed using drugs while he was in California, where weed is legal with a prescription — not allowed in his home state, Virginia. Probation judge, Schnegg, Chris Brown was never ordered Brown to undergo drug testing, as part of his probation, and he will therefore not penalised for failing the test.5 years is a long time for punishment. Not saying he shouldn’t be punished but with America’s strict legal orders, it’s quite hard for a music entertainer/celebrity. Down here in Nigeria, it’s easy to move-on; throw washing machine at your wife who cares, Dana airline crashed about 150 passengers and they are back in the air 3months after.
Don’t judge Chris Brown, it could be you, it could be me. “Don’t Judge” video drops soon.

Review: NOBIS (No Beat Is Safe) – Teeklef

Ebuka “Teeklef” Unogu is a Nigerian born singer, rapper and producer though not nationally based — Chicago, I think. A top10 contestant on the Don Jazzy “Enigma Beat” competition. He released his first mixtape #NOBIS (No Beat Is Safe).
“My Art”, one of the first single off #NOBIS tape; an after break-up song, expressing emotions hoping he could get another chance. Floats into the nexttrack “Should’ve Known Better” “The last chick I gave my heart to never brought it back, so don’t ask me why I sound so heartless…”, then flips it up like Drake.
“Enroute”, I can call this my main jam. We all watched how Teeklef produced this track from scratch. A proud breakthrough song. Three verses expressing passion on “1000Grammys” regardless his obstacles and people’s expectation, he keeps yelling “…do it like I gat a thousand grammys on my wall”.
Falls in love the new brand HipHop group sound, Teeklef calls on a wing man — jumps on A$AP Rocky’s “Wassap” beat produced by Clams Cassino. “The illest barz, I’m still spittin’ like I need a medic/ so when they say the boy sick I guess they prolly mean it”. Clams Cassino’s beat was so safe, it walked straight out of his pententiary (barz), no prison break. Atleast Klef tried, he recognised the new HipHop brand and did something on the custom-flow tune. Jumps on Lil Wayne ft Bruno Mars hit track “Mirror” and gets a lil cocky “ya’ll out there tweeting, I’m out here filling up daily planners. And when I tweet, ya’ll retweeting like a nigga stammers…”.
And then, of course, more girl talks, twitter (sup with Klef and tweeps), ones for loyal friends, come-up motivations, on “Run Away”, “The One”, “All Over Your Body”, “Little Lies”, “Just For Now”. Reminiscing on Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” beat mixed with new self-made drums for “Last Summer” about an ex-lover/summer love he misses yet can’t find.
Finally, Teeklef cooks in a Jay-z interlude “Lock my Body can’t trap my mind” before he delivers on Rick Ross’ hit track “Stay Scheming”…and wrapped up the mixtape with history.

Beat: 3/5
Delivery: 2/5
Lyrics: 2/5

Tosin Adeda - My Views on the “Hold Me Back” Nigerian Version Video

Tosin Adeda is one of Nigeria's finest bloggers, writer and music critic.
His view is a far cry from the two previous views we've read.
Meanwhile, FOLLOW ON TWITTER: @tosinadeda.
www.tosinadeda.wordpress.com

"Why did he shoot in the slums? that i don't know, but i have my own opinion on why he did shoot the videos in the slum, and it goes thus: for a song that portrays struggle, hustle, poverty and how hard work can take anybody out of it, the best place for someone like Rick Ross to shoot the video is the slums. he was once like the people in the slums, he remembers the struggle, he remembers the hustle, and he remembers the people who he was once like.
The song is a Ghetto song, it's a song about the streets, it's about the common man, it's only logical to shoot such a video in the ghetto, on the streets. I salute the director of the videos also, there is a difference between making a Slum Scene and actually using a real slum, and in this case a real slum was used, which i think it's something that Nigerian video directors need to learn, that's what originality and creativity is about.
For those who have a problem with the quality of the video, i challenge them to show me a better Nigerian ghetto video (Directed by a Nigerian) that's as original, precise, straight to the point as the "Hold Me Back" Nigeria video. To think that the video was short within a short time and came out good is a plus.
How many of our own Nigerian artistes have done songs/video to show the plight of Nigerians who live in poverty? majority of them portray Nigeria in their videos like all is fine and we all live the good life. Some don't even shoot their videos in Nigeria, they go to other African countries to shoot videos, is that what you like? people who don't believe in a country that made them rich and famous.
Some make it worse by using White models in their videos, the height of inferiority complex. Its a shame that anybody will feel offended by a foreigner who came over to Nigeria to shoot a video in the slums that we Nigerians have forgotten about.
By the way did y'all see the tribute to Rashidi Yekini? I loved that, R.I.P to the Legend of Nigerian Football.
Now finally to those who just don't like the video because they feel it portrays Nigeria in bad way to the outside world, first of all let me make a point clear to you all, The average, shallow minded, myopic, stupid and dumb non – Nigerians (especially the whites) see Nigeria and Africa as a whole as a jungle of black monkeys who hang on trees and stuff, and there is Nothing anybody can do to change it, because majority will die in their ignorance.
That aside, i have some questions for those who feel insulted by the video being shot in the slums. Are the visuals of the video that of Nigeria or not? Is Nigeria a developed country? What does the average Nigerian worth? How much does the average Nigerian spend in a day? Is Nigeria a paradise for majority of Nigerians? Those people in the slums, are they lesser Nigerians than you are? Are you really offended because you feel bad for them or because of your own ego? Do you care about those particular set of people? Why do you have a problem with the whole world seeing how majority of Nigerians live? . . Answer those questions in your minds, they are rhetorical.
A country blessed with so much natural resources, and yet so much poverty and suffering by the majority of it's people, a country that cannot boast of steady power supply, good health care, good roads, good water supply, good education and several other basic infrastructure that every Nigerian deserves, why will you as a Nigerian want to help the looting and corrupt leaders of Nigeria hide the fact that majority of we Nigerians live in abject poverty and penury in the midst of plenty?
And it's funny and ridiculous that you think you can hide the fact that majority of Nigerians live in poverty because of corrupt leaders, i mean these leaders steal public funds and store in the hands of these same people we are trying to hide from. The world is not blind, they can see, they know how we live in, they know that majority live in poverty, you can't hide that fact.
The fact that you are privileged and have access to more money and luxury does not change the fact that majority of Nigerians are poor and live below a dollar everyday.
I find it very inhumane to feel offended that Nigerians like you and i are in avideo, but because they live in the slums, you arebothered about how the outside world will feel about us in general. The outside world will only talk, they don't care about you and i, they won't solve our problems, it is You and I that will solve our own problems and get ourselves out of the abject poverty that we have been subjected to as Nigerians by our thieving and corrupt politicians.
Do you know the joy and happiness those people in the slums felt? Do you know what is means to be rejected by the govt of your own country, andleft to live in permanent misery and poverty? Only to be remembered by a foreigner, who wentahead to shoot a video so that the we all can see their plight. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves, for feeling offended over the joy of Nigerians who got remembered for once in a verylong while.
The Govt have forgotten these people, left to die in the slums, now you are also going to betray and deny them, because you have more money? Shame on YOU!!!
What have you done to help out? have you touched the lives of Nigerians who live in poverty? what have you contributed? Nothing, absolutely Nothing!
Nigeria go better . . ."

VIDEO: Toolz faints twice as Praiz sings!

A lot of female fans have often testified to R&B-Soul singer Praiz’s voice – Sexy, soulful, soothing, sensational, serene, call it whatever, Praiz gets the ladies…

And if you ever doubted his ability to use his voice to drive any woman beyond the point of ‘logical thinking’, you should see what he did to popular OAP Toolz!

While in the BEAT FM 99.9 studios, Toolz along with OAPs Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi and Jimmie were gossiping about which Nigerian male artistes would rock their world.

And after calling names like Peter Okoye, Paul Okoye, Burna Boy and others Gbemi surprised Toolz by bringing Praiz into the studio to sing for her. To cut it short, Praiz hit the notes which apparently hit Toolz in the right spot; making her hit the floor as she fainted…twice.

M.I - God Forbid

Choc City artiste and J-town representer, MI Abaga joins the debate as he posted on his blog the following titled 'God Forbid!' This is what he wrote.

"Does it make you angry? Does it rile you to see your country portrayed as poor and suffering and full of struggle?
It burns you, does it not? To have some foreigner who knows nothing of your history and pain, of the stories that flow within your blood to have this foreigner come in and tell your story?
Is it not the height of disrespect and insensitivity? Does it not chafe against the thick skin you have grown to cover your otherwounds?
Does it not make you angry?
We should wax sanctimonious about national pride being slighted.
We should vent our displeasure online.
We should occupy something.
Because God forbid the truth ever be told about what things really are.
God forbid a stranger remind us about those things we choose to ignore everyday.
God forbid we ever face the truth about ourselves.
God forbid we do not go on the internet and rail about how our country is being cast in bad light. God forbid we do not talk about how there is a small minority which lives better than portrayed.
God forbid we do not ignore truth one more time.
God forbid we don't."

Lanre Xpose - One Step Forward, Two Steps Back; Rick Ross Holds Nigeria Back

Lanre Xpose is a Nigerian blogger who has aired his view on the Hold Me Back video on this article. He does some analysis and proves his points to every extent possible.
www.vandrusville.com

TAKE A READ:

"Rick Ross came down to Lagos, Nigeria for the Summer Jam festival. Bumped into the streets and asked the organisers to take him to slums (the worst part of Lagos) for a quick shoot of his single "Hold Me Back" off his new album "God Forgives, I Don't". Immediately I was like uh-oh!
This is the same slum and look-alike a section of Nigerian politics is trying to clean up, recruited graduates like me (thank you) and more to assist.
The Lagos state government is quite obvious there are slums in Lagos and efforts have been made to bring them out of it but the commuters think it is unfair to do so because there would be no place to shelter. How do they know that? Why take a mat from a man and not provide a mattress where 2 men can fit.
Back to Rick Ross: immediately "Hold Me Back" Nigeria version was released I flipped.
To me, It was like getting ready for October "Nigeria's Independence Day" in February — hustling to put my family in good clothing ahead of time just to parade on that glorious remembrance day we got our freedom from the white people — and man who knows nothing about our struggle, plan, culture and government comes to parade my family in torn unappreciated clothes just for his own benefit and self interest.
"Hold Me Back" is a song about struggle from grass to grace. When he released the American version, BET & MTV banned it. Only jupiter knows what Rick Ross and Def Jam did to lift the ban but my point is, the video is improper (lyrics) to sell entertainment. Every country no matter the race has an image to protect.
My point is "Hold Me Back" is not the type of song where Nigeria's government and history will be sold because of self interest to promote an international street struggle. Why? The song contents are vulgar "fuckin, niggas, pussy, hoe, pussy hoe". In some years we want to remember the best tribute song of Nigeria's image and the content is full of crap, not something sensible from King Sunny Ade or late Fela Kuti.
Hip-Hop in the 90′s was a genre which wasn't allowed to air on broadcast, for its violence, drug use, vulgar and now for it's nudity — I'm a Hip-Hop head, XXL certified, allow me to scold the culture — How dare you parade a country's pride on a song"pussy hoe, pussy hoe" music. Do it for your country leave others alone.
"I'm more pissed with a complete stranger using sensitive stuff like the Biafran war to try and boost his cred n stuff..nobody can jst go to south africa n try to use Mandela's legacy to do video to boost rep n street cred" – Anonymous.

Yes! The video is the truth, it's original, those are true Nigerians(average/low), no dispute. But it of self interest and not the nation. This is still the same thing we are fighting against in Nigeria; doing the right things for the wrong reasons, vice-versa.
Naeto C, son of the former minister of aviation, anhiphop artist in Nigeria put the hood in his "Ten Over Ten" video with better lyrics directed by Bobby Boulders — did an unpublicised concert for the hood. But Nigerians all called it wack and spat on it.
Rick Ross (not a citizen) captured the hood/slum and Nigerian government for "pussy, ho, pussy ho" and we all embrace it.
D'banj wasn't allowed more than 10seconds of "oh, oh, oh, eh, eh eh" jungle sound on the G.O.O.D Music "Cruel Summer" album all because too much Nigeria product won't sell the project. We all dissed D'banj, rushed into his twitter to abuse & haze him to come back home.
Now you think, selling our poverty side with terrible lyrics on Youtube world wide stream and screen won't do worse? You're playing yourself! Even black Americans are racial to Africans.
All said and done, I have to get to back to my little unit where I contribute to the development of Nigeria. It's left to you to play your part. Stop taking one step forward and two steps back.
God Bless Nigeria."

Shakira, Usher Joining ‘The Voice’ in Spring;

Aguilera said in a statement that it was important for her to take the fourth season off to concentrate on a tour that will follow the Nov. 13 release of her album "Lotus." She said she intends "to come back and offer even more to my team on 'The Voice' in the future."
Green will remain in television, developing a scripted comedy series for NBC based on his life. He will also be working on his next solo album, a new Goodie Mob album, his Las Vegas residency "Loberace," and a memoir being written by David Wild. Green said he will return for Season 5.
The announcement of a spring season confirms a report in a recent issue of Billboard magazine that "The Voice" would be moving to a full year on NBC's schedule. Coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will remain through Season 4.
"Having award-winning artists as coaches means they need to be able to tour," executive producer Mark Burnett said in a statement. "Whether in the red chair or on tour, our coaches have their chairs for life. This is exactly why, after three seasons, we needed to allow them to rotate out so they can get on the road amongst their fans.
" Usher is currently on three Billboard charts with different singles. His "Scream," which peaked at No. 9, is No. 36 on the Hot 100; "Numb" is No. 31 on pop songs; and "Dive" debuted last week on the Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop songs at No. 34.
