USHER THANKS ‘HEROES’ FOR SAVING SON’S LIFE

Usher is expressing his gratitude to the men who saved his son’s life after a near-fatal pool accident earlier this week in Atlanta.

“I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock,” the R&B singer said in a statement to PEOPLE. “I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”

On Monday, Usher’s eldest son Usher Raymond V was retrieving a toy from a pool drain when his arm got stuck. His aunt and the maid dove in to help, but were unsuccessful. Two male employees working in the house came to the rescue and were able to free his arm and performed CPR before paramedics arrived.

The five-year-old is recovering at an Atlanta hospital. “I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering,” said Usher. “I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family’s well-being.”

According to TMZ, the mother of Ben Crews, the audio-video worker who pulled the young Usher out of the pool, is not asking for money in exchange for her son’s heroic deed, but would love it if Usher performed at her son’s wedding next week.

The incident has reignited a custody battle between Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Foster, who has reportedly requested an emergency hearing to regain primary custody of the two children.
